Who are we

The name of the organisation is Coach & Bus Operators Association (CBOA) formerly CROSSBORDER BUS OPERATORS ASSOCIATION (CBOA) which represents both passenger transport operators and suppliers to the this sector. The Association was formed in November 2005. Membership of the Association is open to any person or persons including corporate bodies involved in the transportation of passengers to and from countries outside Zimbabwe or supplying services, products to this sector.

These are passenger transport operators who operate local or cross border routes.

Suppliers

These are suppliers in the passenger transport industry like for example bus providers, parts providers and ticketing office locations

Our objectives

To recruit and admit to membership passenger transport operators falling in the category defined herein.

To promote and advance, coordinate and harmonise the interests of the members of the organisation.

To represent members of the organisation and present their interests, grievances, view points, and any other matters of interest to or affecting them, to relevant administrative offices of government.

Our achievements

Negotiated with the Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) for an express service for Members Buses and Coaches with Association Stickers.

Provided the Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID) with reflective bibs and vehicle beacon lights for all new vehicles purchased by the department.

Improved relations between Crossborder Operators and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) which has improved collections of duties at all Ports of Entry.

Secured finance for our members to purchase new buses.

Enhanced the process of removal of hired and non-permit carrying buses from most Crossborder Routes especially into South Africa.

Key sponsor of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) National Traffic Christmas Parties and other Social Events as the Commissioner General Sporting Tournaments.

Our medium-long term goals

Medium term goals

  1. Creation for the Association Act, which will force all operators to be part of an Association of repute of their choice.

  2. Partial self regulation prior to Government intervention.

  3. Re-introduce Intra-City Transportation using the Rapid System to enhance commuters’ movement.

  4. Advocate for the construction of a modern Intercity Ranking Facility.

  5. Advocate for the construction of a modern Crossborder Ranking Facility.

  6. Advocate for the erection of fences along all major highways.

  7. Establish a Transporters Federation representing all sectors of Public Transporters.

  8. Improve quality of buses and coaches in the country.

Long term goals

  1. Establish finance for fleet renewals.

  2. Initiate PPP with Government on provision of Passenger Transport Services

Chairperson

Ignatius is the Managing Director of Kukura Kurerwa Bus Company (based in Harare). Kukura Kurerwa is by far the largest operator in the country a position they have held over several decades. Kukura Kurerwa services more routes in the country than any other current operator (both intercity and rural). He has vast experience in engineering and thus impacts that knowledge for the benefit of members of the Association.

Vice Chairperson

Ashley is the Managing Director of Tombs Motors (based in Kwekwe) running several major routes in Zimbabwe and Crossborder Routes into South Africa from the Midlands Province. He is a fully qualified mechanical engineer whose skills benefit our members immensely.

Mrs. C. Taranhike

Secretary

Christina is the Operations Director of King Lion Motorways (based in Harare) running several local routes and Crossborder Routes into Zambia from Harare. She has vast experience in the hospitality and customer services industry.

Itayi Junior is the General Manager of Munenzwa Bus Services. Munenzwa Bus Services is the biggest Zimbabwean company providing Crossborder Routes into several cities in South Africa.

Chief Executive Officer

Farium Alexander is the CEO of the Association. Alex is responsible for every member’s welfare with regards to representation and day to day management of the affairs of the Association. Alex is also the Managing Director of Eagleliner Coaches Private Limited, which operators on local routes.
